The short version

Install the app, sign in with Google, and follow the four setup steps.

Setup asks for a household name, a Google Calendar, who lives with you, and any food restrictions.

The people you add get a join code you send them. They install the app and type the code in.

Good to know

Before you start

You need an iPhone or iPad, and a Google account. Google is what holds your family calendar, so whoever sets HomeHQ up should sign in with the Google account you want the family calendar to live under.

If someone already set up your household and sent you a code, you do not need any of this. Read Joining a household instead.

Step by step

Set up your household

1

Install the app

During the beta, HomeHQ is handed out through TestFlight rather than the App Store. The beta and TestFlight page walks through that.

2

Tap "Continue with Google"

Pick the Google account your family calendar should live in. HomeHQ asks for calendar and tasks access on the same screen, so this is one login, not two.

Sign in with Apple is built but switched off while the beta runs. Google is the only way in right now.
3

Name your home and pick a calendar

Step 1 of setup. Give the household a name (the Nguyen house, Home, whatever you call it), then either pick a Google Calendar you already share or let HomeHQ make a new one named after your household.

Picking an existing calendar means everything already on it shows up straight away.

4

Add your family

Step 2. Add each person by email. Each one gets a row on the dashboard, a colour, and a join code you can share whenever you like.

You can skip this and add people later from Settings. Nothing breaks.

5

Note any food restrictions

Step 3, and optional. Allergies and dietary styles are stored per person. This feeds the meal planner, which is still being finished, so you can skip it and add it later in Settings.

6

You are done

Step 4 just confirms it. You land on the dashboard: today's schedule, the family strip, chores, and whatever is on the calendar this week.

Good to know

What to do next

Add a chore or two so the board is not empty. Scan a school flyer and watch the dates land on the calendar. If you have a spare iPad, try wall mode.

Common questions

Questions people ask.

Yes. HomeHQ runs on top of Google Calendar and Google Tasks, so a Google account is what holds your family's schedule. Everyone in the household signs in with their own Google account.

Everyone who wants the app on their own phone does. Younger kids often just look at the wall-mounted iPad instead, which needs no account of their own.

Not yet. iPhone and iPad only today. A native Android app is planned, and you can leave your email on the download page to hear when it lands.

Ten minutes if you already know which Google Calendar you want to use. The slow part is usually deciding that.
