The short version

Install HomeHQ, then tap "I have a join code" on the login screen.

Sign in with your own Google account, then type the code you were sent.

You land in the family calendar, chores and dashboard that already exist.

Good to know

How invites actually work

HomeHQ does not email invitations. Whoever set the household up sees a code next to your name and shares it however they like: text, WhatsApp, read aloud across the kitchen.

The code is eight characters and does not expire. If you lose it, ask them to tap the share icon next to your name in Settings and send it again.

Step by step

Joining, step by step

1

Install HomeHQ

During the beta that means installing through TestFlight. The beta and TestFlight page covers it.

2

Tap "I have a join code"

It is the third button on the login screen, below Continue with Google. Tapping it before you sign in is what puts you in the right household.

If you sign in normally instead, you get a fresh empty household of your own. Fixable, but annoying: Settings, then "Join a different household".
3

Sign in with your own Google account

Use your own account, not the one that set the household up. Your calendar access is granted at the same time.

4

Type the code

Eight characters. Case does not matter. Tap Join household and you are in.

Good to know

What you get

The family calendar, the chores board with your name already on it, any points and streaks that were waiting for you, and notifications you can tune to taste.

Kids only ever see their own chores. Parents see everyone.

Common questions

Questions people ask.

Check you are typing all eight characters, and that you are on the join code screen rather than an ordinary sign-in. If it still fails, ask whoever invited you to reshare the code from Settings, since it may have been claimed already.

Open Settings and tap "Join a different household", then enter the correct code.

Yes. Someone in the household adds you, which is what generates your code.

Not at once. One account belongs to one household at a time, and switching moves you.
